If There Was A Nobel Prize For Lies...

Noam Chomsky and his hard left gang of Israel bashers are at it again. This time it is about the current crisis in the Middle East, which they blame entirely on Israel.

Chomsky is circulating a letter which he got two naïve Nobel Prize winners--the playwright Harold Pinter and the poet José Saramago--to sign.

It is vintage Chomsky, beginning with its first sentences: "The latest chapter of the conflict between Israel and Palestine began when Israeli forces abducted two civilians, a doctor and his brother, from Gaza. An incident scarcely reported anywhere, except in the Turkish press." Chomsky typically cites obscure news reports in languages no one can read. This time it's "the Turkish Press." The problem with Chomsky's assertion is that a five minute Google News check reveals that the incident he points to was widely reported by the English language press, including The Washington Post, The Chicago Tribune, the Boston Globe, BBC, Reuters, and the Associated Press. (Lie number one).

No lies by Chomsky are to be found in this article, it's laughable the way the words are twisted and individual quotes are taken out of context. If anyone is being dishonest, it's Alan Dershowitz, known for doing so on many occasions, always to the benefit of his agendas, one of them being a pro-Israel Zionist.

For example:

Chomsky has said in interviews that "we don't even know their names," referring to the arrested militants. But a quick check of newspapers reveals that their names are Osama and Mostafa Muamar, whose father is Ali Muamar, a notorious Hamas leader.

In English speaking countries probably wouldn't be taken literally. That indeed is the only case for mistruth in the article, and clearly would have to be represented in a completely dishonest way itself, i.e. lying.

ajzz - I thoroughly agree - the article demonstrates NO lies by Chomsky. The article is an extremely offensive attack on one of America's outstanding scholars and humanitarians as well as on his co-authors (one a Booker Prize Winner and 2 others Nobel Prize Winners). The only conceivable dispute could arise over Chomsky's simple statement of personal non-knowledge "we don't even know their names" (few are qualified on this Planet to tangle with one of the world's top experts on linguistics). For a detailed account of the run-up to the horrendous escalation of violence (bipartisan for sure, but overwhelmingly and horrendously disproportionately by Israel) see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Summer_Rains
- the Wikipedia article confirms the essence of the account by Professor Chomsky and his distinguished colleagues.

Professor Chomsky is an outstanding Jewish American scholar and humanitarian. Indeed he is a significant part of what many would regard as the greatest contribution of the Jewish people to the world - a 3 millennium humanitarian discourse from the Mosaic 10 Commandments, the "love thy neighbour" of Jesus Christ, and the attempt at scientific humanitarianism by Marx and Engels to the current distinguished Jewish humanitarians arguing cogently for human rights, the equality of all men and their right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Harold Pinter is far from naïve. Here is a section of his Nobel acceptance speech from 2005:

I was present at a meeting at the US embassy in London in the late 1980s.

The United States Congress was about to decide whether to give more money to the Contras in their campaign against the state of Nicaragua. I was a member of a delegation speaking on behalf of Nicaragua but the most important member of this delegation was a Father John Metcalf. The leader of the US body was Raymond Seitz (then number two to the ambassador, later ambassador himself). Father Metcalf said: 'Sir, I am in charge of a parish in the north of Nicaragua. My parishioners built a school, a health centre, a cultural centre. We have lived in peace. A few months ago a Contra force attacked the parish. They destroyed everything: the school, the health centre, the cultural centre. They raped nurses and teachers, slaughtered doctors, in the most brutal manner. They behaved like savages. Please demand that the US government withdraw its support from this shocking terrorist activity.'

Raymond Seitz had a very good reputation as a rational, responsible and highly sophisticated man. He was greatly respected in diplomatic circles. He listened, paused and then spoke with some gravity. 'Father,' he said, 'let me tell you something. In war, innocent people always suffer.' There was a frozen silence. We stared at him. He did not flinch.

As much as Dershowitz has every right to disagree with Chomsky, it's disingenuous to portray him as manipulating innocent academics.
