A mortar shell fired by Hizb'allah terrorists slammed into a UN post along the Israel-Lebanon border Sunday, wounding three Chinese peacekeepers. UN chief Kofi Annan, however, has conspicuously failed to condemn Hizb'allah for the attack, as he so publicly did Israel after a similar incident last month.
When a bomb dropped by the Israeli air force unintentionally took the lives of four peacekeepers in late July, Annan was immediately before media cameras, expressing "shock and deep distress" over what he insisted was the "apparently deliberate targeting" of the UN post.
But while Beijing has been quick to condemn Sunday's attack, Annan has not uttered a word.
I know that some expected more even-handness, or at least a less-blatant display of favoritism and bias. Given the history of the UN and Anan vis a vis Israel, I am not surprised
