I take it personally: Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, wants to murder me, my family and my people. Day in, day out, he announces the imminent demise of the "Zionist regime," by which he means Israel. And day in, day out, his scientists and technicians are advancing toward the atomic weaponry that will enable him to bring this about.

Obama is, no doubt, well aware of this asymmetric timetable. Which makes his prohibition against an Israeli preemptive strike all the more immoral. He knows that any sanctions he manages to orchestrate will not stop the Iranians. (Indeed, Ahmadinejad last week said sanctions would only fortify Iran's resolve and consolidate its technological prowess.) Obama is effectively denying Israel the right to self-defense when it is not his, or America's, life that is on the line.

The situation reveals Barack's disturbing combination of arch-cynicism and naivete. He brings Israel ever closer to great harm. I'm minded that he was Rev. Wright's star parishioner.
Why, why, why do those terrible mullahs so disrespect Barack? Don't they realize who he is?

#1 - Sun Apr 18, 2010 9:57 AM EDTIMO, what a lot of westerners fail to realize is that iran's current crazy rulers do want to annihilate the Israelis-- but the Israelis have no interest in wiping out the Iranians. (Even air strikes at Iran's nuclear installations-- if they were to occur-- would not be designed to exterminate the Iranians but rather solely to knock out their nuclear potential).

For their own existence (and the peace of the rest of the world) Israel needs to make a strike against Iran's nuclear and war making facilities. The day we start allowing anybody, including the judgement of world opinion, to make our choices for us, we are doomed. Israel is no different and will make choices for survival with or without our help. It is too bad we seem to have taken a position of appeasement (& that is even a stretch) instead of strength; it will be to our detriment.
