Pictures of the weapons found on the Mavi Marmara ship where today, when IDF soldiers attempted to board the ship and redirect it to the Ashdod Port, the activists on board lynched the soldiers in a planned attack. They used knives, metal rods, firebombs and other weapons to attack the soldiers. The violence resulted in the deaths of nine activists and seven IDF soldiers were wounded in the process. All casualties were evacuated from the ship and taken to hospitals in Israel.

Also see this Youtube video which shows live shots of the knives, slingshots, clubs, wrenches and molotov cocktails collected from on board the vessel.

The really snaeky thing was the way they said they would be peaceful, in order to fool the commandoes and put them off guard-- and of course the claim that they had no weapons.

More evidence is coming in as to who was actually on that boat. Here's a rather interesting report (its from al-Jazeera-- so its not exactly "Zionist propaganda").

Do you "people" have cataracts?? Galley knives, a knife sharpening tool and old construction tools in piles in pictures totally out of context?? You must not think much.

How about the fact that the IDF had no more right to board a foreign flagged vessel in INTERNATIONAL waters than do the Somali pirates?

"the activists on board lynched the soldiers in a planned attack."

IF this happened, then why were there no IDF killed? The only victims were 9 foreign nationals killed by IDF. More than half of the IDF injuries came from repelling into stuff on board a ship they had no right to be on. The other three were beaten by people under attack by pirates shooting at them. You "people" just suck up the kool-aid.

    What a TARD 167929.

I'll bet that most of what you see in this photo was removed from the ships galley for justification purposes only. As far as a "metal rod" butchers steel, I guess you could poke someones eye out.

This was a real sad day for Isreal whom did have the "civilized world" by their side, until this.

It is a sad day indeed if the world is taken in by this. The flotilla had nothing whatever to do with humanitarian aid. There were legal channels available and repeatedly offered to move the cargo to Gaza by land. The only purpose of the flotilla was to engineer bad PR for Israel by putting it in a position where the minimum reasonable response could be made to look bad.

What were Israel's alternatives? To fire on or sink the ship? Or let it land at Gaza and effectively end the blockade, paving the way for free movement of arms from Iran into Gaza?

Just think before you spout drivel.

seems to me that if 7 IDF soldiers were killed, then these people are more than just activists.

i would have everyone on the ship detained under smuggling charges. tell all future vessels that they can expect the same at a minimum exept there will be less caution on civilian casualties and more emphasis on bringing the soldiers home.

@Dennis, your apology for IDF is total drivel - if you just read what is really there, looked at the pictures of galley knives and old construction tools = and thought about it

@California Militia, oh god save us from your help. You can't even read. ZERO IDF commandos were killed, but, as usual, 9 (NINE) of the IDF's "opponents" were. 7 IDF suffered injuries from their invasion of the ships, 4 from repelling injuries and 3 in hand-to-hand combat with people who didn't like being shot at by pirates.

Since Gaza is a separate country, how could there be "smuggling" involved?? THINK.

and the fighting started so quickly it almost seems they were waiting for them the whole time. I wouldnt be suprised if they literally had people stationed on the deck with the intent to incite a confrontation as soon as IDF shows up.

Perhaps because they or their buddies had been firing BEFORE those in the pictures reached the ship in question - because that is what was reported at the time of the incident. Amazing how many facts can be omitted from a story to create a propaganda piece. Israel's far-right-wing learned well the use of Hitler's/Himmler's "Big Lie" tactic. Sorry to have to bring those hated names up in this context, but the Big Lie was Hitler's idea, and Likud and the Israeli Parties to its right follow that propaganda technique.

@Rob, Hamas wasn't even involved. It is the Israeli far-right-wing that is the major armed terrorist group bent on the expulsion of all but Conservative-Jews living in what they deem to be Israel. I'm sure that if your land had been taken and were pinned up in a ghetto, you'd be pretty upset, too.

What Israel should have done was taken the high road and just blocked these clowns from proceeding, wait them out then escort them to port to be detained and processed. But instead they fell prey to a elementary plan to provoke a possible deadly response. You cant tell me that highly trained Israel navy so afraid of this flotilla that could only be stopped by using deadly force.

At this time, I believe the only thing Israel has managed to accomplish from this exercise is the alienating itself from her allies, supporters and countries that had sympathized with their plight.

And if "these clowns" were determined to continue to Gaza no matter what, any attempt by Israel to block them from proceeding would eventually have to become violent. Would you rather that they have torpedoed the boat?

And they went down there with paint ball guns, pistols tucked away as a last resort. They did not approach with deadly force (if they had, then everyone on the boat would have been dead). Only when 10 guys took on each soldier with deadly weapons (a metal stick swung hard at a person's head at close range is a deadly weapon) and the commandos lives were at stake did they return with deadly force.

Osama Qashoo of the Free Gaza organization said in a CNN story that the participants would defend themselves if they must. This sounds like a warning of violence against the Israelis.

Albeit, if it was a warning, it was hard to read because the same story quotes Qashoo as saying, "We are determined. We are going to bust through the Israeli navy," but then he added, "we are not seeking any confrontation ... we are simply a humanitarian mission."

The CNN piece is found at: http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/meast/05/30/gaza.protest/index.html.

Israel is and has mostly been in the right over the years. But there was no need to perform any boarding exercise at sea. If the point ships commander cannot halt a tiny boat using a large naval vessel then that's where it started to go all wrong for Israel.

Should the invading boat try to ram the navy ship, sink it plain and simple. Also, if there was any gunfire from the invading boat that would be reason #2 to down it. But have every action and reaction on video uncut so the world will see how belligerent this flotilla was behaving.

The whole situation should have been controlled as well as handled with a bit more finesse.

The blockade is in place for a reason. There are established routes for aid in order to circumvent smuggling of arms and military equipment, and extremists. Anyone violating or trying to run the blockade is fair game for military action. I think Israel used considerable restraint in light of the circumstances. This should be a warning that Israel is serious about this blockade and should publicly announce that they will shoot first the next time someone tries to run the blockade.

Well, the Israelis have begun interoggating them. And they have been discovering some interesting things about the true identities of these so-called "peace activists":

Probe reveals flotilla lynchers have ties to Global Jihad

Interrogation of Gaza aid sail detainees reveals some of passengers recruited specifically to attack Israeli soldiers. Suspects found to be carrying multiple weapons, cash

Article also includes an excellent video of the Israeli commandoes when the landed on the ship.

As a member of the human society here on Earth, and as an Israeli citizen, I must express my deepest regret and send my condolences to the bereaved family who lost their loved ones in the recent remorseful event that has occurred on the humanitarian Marmara flotilla.

This ship has been sent from Turkey in the alleged purpose of delivering a humanitarian supply to the destitute Gaza state. This voyage has been executed by the IHH activists. IHH, which plays a central role in organizing the flotilla to the Gaza Strip, is a Turkish humanitarian relief fund with a radical Islamic anti-Western orientation. Besides its legitimate philanthropic activities, it supports radical Islamic networks, including Hamas, and at least in the past, even global jihad elements. http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3897667,00.html

On the board of the flotilla were a couple of dozen of radical demonstrators that are evidently associated with the Jihad, and were intentionally boarded on board to provoke an armed skirmish if it were to happen. Accordingly, we shall distinguish them from the other peaceful activists that were on board and on the other 5 ships.

According to the IDF, they informed the Marmara flotilla of its close penetration to a territory that is under blockade since 2007, which is compliant to the international law and its conditions: 1. Inform all sea by countries of the blockade 2. No discrimination to any country trying to send a ship (arresting all ships under blockades). 3. No killing innocent civilians during the arrest. 4. Releasing all of them after the arrest, except alleged criminals which were to be indicted. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007%E2%80%932010_blockade_of_the_Gaza_Strip In addition, the IDF has even invited the flotilla to its port in Ashdod to be scrutinized for any weaponry or any kind of ammunition. The answer was negative. They wanted to circumvent the blockade and reach Gaza Strip with their cargo intact. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKOmLP4yHb4

Subsequently, the IDF has sent a brigade of commandos to board all the ships in order to intercept its initial course and delivering the cargo on ship to inspection in Ashdod, a city inside the Israeli border.

The preliminary instructions given to the commandos were: 1. Try to avoid any physical attack 2. Forbidden to shot (only if they thought to be in grave danger) 3. Disperse the mob with paint balls and tear gas if it were to be necessary.

However, while having a smooth control on the other 5 boats and without encountering any aggressive assault from the resistant side, on the 6th boat, the Marmara flotilla, the resistance was dumbfounding. It was a very aggressive assault acted by the Jihadist activists, who were armed with slingshots, rods, crow-bars, knives and guns. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYjkLUcbJWo / http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bU12KW-XyZE /

The Israeli soldiers, who did not expect such aggressiveness, striven to restore order, but with no avail. Eventually, while seeing 2 of their fellow comrades wallowing in their own blood, they asked permission to use their guns as self defense. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9p5QT91QYs / http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFGuwUGaI9o

Of course, this is clearly a fault that could be avoided. The IDF was not prepared for such an attack, claiming it believed to be a humanitarian peaceful flotilla, and so they prepared for a passive or verbal resistance. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/us_israel_flotilla_tactics;_ylt=AiUsR6z7Ao.vVfBTttx.mAcUewgF;_ylu=X3oDMTNmYm05YTdrBGFzc2V0A25tLzIwMTAwNjAxL3VzX2lzcmFlbF9mbG90aWxsYV90YWN0aWNzBGNjb2RlA21vc3Rwb3B1bGFyBGNwb3MDMgRwb3MDMgRzZWMDeW5fdG9wX3N0b3JpZXMEc2xrA3BhaW50YmFsbHN0bw --

So the aftermath is evident, 10 died and many injured. The media was quick to response claiming Israel to be a pirate state, a transgressor who perpetrated a massacre on innocent peace activists using a casuistic approach. As a result, the Hamas, using the world wide hatred, has jumped on the opportune moment to attack Israel and its blockade on Gaza- The blockade that have been executed in order to stop the smuggling of weapons through the sea and the ground.

So I guess, in the end… the unctuous impartial media was right, and the commandos had no right to attack! They should have let them beat them to death… just like all the other navy in the world would do to a potentially armed ship under a prominent blockade that has lasted for years and have stopped chronically more than a dozen armed ships in its way to Hamas' arsenal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvS9PXZ3RWM
