Israeli Students plan counter-flotilla to Turkey

Israeli students are planning a "peace flotilla" to Turkey with humanitarian aid for nations who suffered under Turkish imperialism – the Kurds and Armenians. The initiative comes in response to the world's sharp criticism of Israel's lethal raid on the Gaza flotilla which left nine activists dead and many wounded.

...

"Turkey, which leads the campaign against Israel and makes all sorts of threats is the same Turkey that carried out a holocaust and murdered an entire nation of Armenians, and oppresses a minority larger than the Palestinians – the Kurds – who deserve a state, who have demanded a state for longer than the State of Israel has existed."

Good luck to them.

But before they set sail, they should at least watch "Midnight Express."

Turkish prisons aren't much better than the hell holes of South America.

Well, Turkey does not operate any kind of sea blockade so it would be very strange if these people were stopped.

It is pure publicity designed to put Turkey in their place. Probably not many people will get to hear of it, or care.

But it's a cute idea. I wish them well.

while not at all the same.. it does highly some of the other oppression around the world.
but the Armenians have 2 of their borders wide open.

Still they are oppressed and economically hampered by the blockade./

Best of luck to them, maybe this is will be one step closer to admitting the wrongs committed against the Armenians and Kurds. I do however want to point out, that there are stark differences between Gaza and these two people. Armenians and Kurds have wide open borders to deliver goods to them.

Well maybe to balance things up Israel should start supplying the Kurds with arms. See whether the Turks are happy to have shipments of Israeli arms, destined for Kurds, offloaded in Turkey and smuggled to PKK cells.

We'd see then whether Turkey would just let them (or any subsequent ships from Israel) sail through Turkish waters or challenge them.

Hypocrites of the first order.

The Israeli government must be having an outbreak of FacePalms over this little gem.

The UN is going down its usual predictable route of an "investigation", and in the months ahead the whole thing will die away amid a welter of investigative bureaucracy and politics as it always does; the World will get bored and move on to find something else to moan about - as it will.

Then along come these guys ..... perfect job on behalf of the Turkish government to keep it all in the Public eye, keep the yelling going on about it in the world press .... and why? because they are under the delusion this is all about peace, truth and justice. The hell it is, its the dirty dead hand of politics, and always will be.

The human race is a nasty little species, always will be, deal with it, dont live in denial.

So what kind of arms would the Turkish flotilla have brought? By now we should know since Israel seized the goods? Hamas going to do hit and runs with wheel chairs? Will they form rocks out of cement and use them in their sling-shots?

No. Long range missiles that could hit Ankara.

Because without the Gaza blockade Iran would supply Hamas with missiles that could take out Tel-Aviv.

So wait, you suggest delivery of long range weapons against Turkey would be ok, but delivery of the same weapons against Israel would be a disaster? very consistent then ...

    cement is for building bunkers.

poles are for the reinforcing of bunkers to withstand larger more direct hits.

but the idea is to make these things sound simple to the rest of the world. once the blockade ends, wheelchairs will be replaced by rockets, machine guns, ammunition, you name it.

these people already smuggle weapons in through underground tunnels. if they need so much aid, maybe the aid should be smuggled instead of the weapons.

Its obvipus that this isn't aboput aid. israel has staed on numerous occasions that if they let the ship dock at Ashdod (the nearest Israeli port) they would checdk the cargo for weapons and then send the food, etc to Gaza by truck. But the people on the boats are merely trying to use this for propaganda-- they insit they be allowed to go to Gaza-- without letting the Iraelis inspect the cargo.

No, I'm not suggesting a tit for tat retaliation. The point is to illustrate and draw attention to the hypocrisy of the Turks, not sink to their level. That is the spirit behind the students' proposal for a counter-flotilla.

Sadly the point seems to have been lost on you and heaven knows what the media would make of it.

Great idea, and I suspect the Turks would blow these ships out of the water and damn the consequences. Of course there would be little outcry, no UN investigation, etc. With Turkey now becoming an Islamist state under its prime minister, they would have the automatic support of all the Islamic countries, a majority in the UN, and there would probably be a condemnation of israel anyway for a provocative act or something.
